This is my rendition of the Jupiter 2 from TV's Lost in Space. The kit was from Polar Lights, and I added the following: - DF Howard LED Fusion Core lights - DF Howard Top Dome lights - Scratch-built seats & Gravity generator. |

I had a two week span to build this model without any interference except my day job. That didn't leave me enough time to go all-out and accurize the model to any significant degree (otherwise it would've taken months). And I wanted it done for my office. So two weeks was my deadline and I worked according to the schedule. The model was built to represent the Jupiter 2 in flight. I covered the landing bay leg wells with 0.10 styrene. The panels that would've covered the footpads are actually removeable plates, held in by magnets. Behind the plates are screws that keep the body together. I removed the switch from the top dome light system and soldered on a new one. The new switch was attached to longer wires and run out of the rear leg bay, which served as my switch. I installed 3 white LEDs for the interior, but I fear they're underpowered and I'll have to replace them. The interior for this kit is quite nice, really. Since I knew it was to be built as a sealed kit, I didn't go to great lenghts on detailing it. The seats in front of the main viewscreen needed to go. Skyhook miniatures has an excellent set of replacement seats, but I needed them NOW, so I made my own from sheet and half-round styrene. The gravity sensor was barely a detail on the kit, so I spent a bit of time and boxed it in. Beyond that, it was just a quick paint job - and I do mean quick. The white discs on the bottom of the freezing tubes are bits of paper from a standard hole punch! The lower deck was left out altogether. |
